What to Expect When You Call Shamrock About a Water Line
A water line problem usually shows up as a wet yard, a pressure drop or a bill that does not make sense. Here is how we take it from that first call to water running the way it should, whether the property is in Boise, Meridian or out in Canyon County.
1. Call and Leak Detection
Call (208) 919-4260 and tell us what you are seeing. We isolate the leak between the meter and the house with pressure testing and leak detection tools, and we locate the line so we know exactly where to dig, or whether we need to dig at all. On a new installation we lay out the route from the meter or well to the building.
2. Free Written Estimate
You get a written estimate that names the repair or replacement method, the pipe material and length, the restoration included and any city or water district fees. Estimates are free and there are no surprises: if the ground changes what we find, you hear about it before we proceed.
3. Locates, Permits and the Work
We call Dig Line 811 for utility locates, pull the plumbing or right of way permit your city or water provider requires, then repair the section or install the new line below the frost line. Where the yard, driveway or trees make open trenching costly, we use trenchless replacement to pull new pipe through a few small pits.
4. Pressure Test, Backfill and Restoration
The new line is pressure tested and inspected before it is covered. Trenches are backfilled in compacted lifts, the surface is graded back, and we walk you through what was done and where the line now runs so you know for the future.

How do I know if I have an underground water line leak?
The common signs are a soggy or unusually green patch in the yard between the meter and the house, a drop in pressure at every fixture, a meter that keeps turning when everything in the house is off, and a water bill that climbs with no change in use. Who is responsible for the water line, me or the city?
In most Treasure Valley cities and water districts the utility owns the main and the meter, and the property owner is responsible for the service line from the meter to the house. On rural properties with a well, the whole line is yours. That means a leak on your side of the meter is your repair. We handle the permit and the coordination with your water provider as part of the job.
Can you replace a water line without tearing up my driveway?
Usually, yes. Trenchless water line replacement pulls a new pipe through the path of the old one from a small pit at each end, so the driveway, patio and most of the lawn stay intact. It is not right for every situation: a line that changes direction or runs through rock may still need an open trench. We tell you which method fits after we locate the line. How deep does a water line need to be in Idaho?
Deep enough to stay below the frost line, so it does not freeze in a hard Treasure Valley winter. The required depth is set by local code and varies with the city and the site, and we install to it on every job. Shallow lines put in by a previous owner are one of the most common causes of the winter freeze-ups and springtime leaks we see in older Boise neighborhoods.
How long does a water line repair or replacement take?
